Rugby excitement

Excuse me people? No comments on the last entry? I'm starting to feel like you don't miss us at all! What's going on? I expect much better in future.

Clearly we have to work harder to entice you to comment. Well fine, here's my commentary on the RUGBY.
We went to the rugby on Saturday night, with Rusty and his friend Jamie who is very nice. It was a Super 14s game...I'm not really sure what that equates to in UK rugby terms, but anyway, it's a big exciting tournament between NZ, Aussie, and South African teams. We watched the Crusaders (who are the Canterbury home team) against the Stormers, from South Africa. The ground was reallllllly big (I don't actually know how big it was in comparison to our sports grounds at home since I've only ever been to 2 football matches. Sorry!)
Before the teams came on, they had the pre-match entertainment, or whatever you call it. First they had cheerleaders. I wasn't impressed, I put more energy into dancing on a Friday night at the Hippo! But never mind, what happened next MORE than made up for that.
There was a CASTLE in the corner of the pitch! A CASTLE! From the castle came "The Black Rider". A knight on a horse. He rode around the pitch once, then about 8 OTHER "knights" on horses rode out and they all went around the edge of the pitch waving their swords like crazypeople! I was having hysterics! It was all so obscure!
After that, the Crusaders came onto the pitch accompanied by fire, cheerleaders, funky music and a roaring crowd. Then the Stormers came out accompanied by...silence. I felt bad for them!
The game itself was apparently not overly exciting (I can't judge, personally. I kept watching for a few minutes then losing concentration and staring at weird looking people in the crowd, or the stars, or thinking about how chilly it was) but it was still fun!
As a non-rugby person, I see rugby as basically guys running around on a pitch and occasionally falling over and having a bundle on the floor, interspersed with some throwing and kicking (both of the ball and the players. Ouchie.). Whatevs.
To give you a more rounded view, here is Maz with some ACTUAL sporting knowledge for you!
[go Maz go!]
I thought it was a pretty good game! Crusaders won by a significant margin (36-11) they had a week ago apparently not been very effective but they were missing their 6 first team all-blacks because of the weird 2 month conditioning thing the all-blacks were doing. Excitingly for me all the all-blacks were back including the one and only Mr Dan Carter. For all you unknowledgable types he's a fly half, like Jonny Wilkinson only, better (yes I did just say that). The Crusaders because of having all their players back were a good deal better than the stormers without being particularly awe-inspiring. Carter made a fantastic cross-field kick for them to score the opening try but the best move was the penultimate try from the end where the ball went through about 8 passes really quickly to score. The NZ press are now tipping the Crusaders to make the semi-s at least of the super14 if not the final. But really yay I saw Dan Carter :P
[stop Maz stop!]

There we go. That was amazing. So yes, basically, they chucked the ball around, scored a bunch of tries and then also got the conversions as well (see I know stuff).
What was amusing was the way that the only time they scored was when one of us had gone to the toilet or gone to get food, so we all managed to miss one of the tries! Well done us.
Speaking of food, dear god what hideousness! Rusty had a hot dog, which here means a battered sausage ON A STICK! It didn't look pleasant. Maz and I had cheeseburgers but they were realllllly unpleasant so we didn't finish them. I was quite tempted to throw my leftovers at the annoying boy in front of us. He was a Stormers fan, and just DID NOT SHUT UP. He was constantly screaming COME ON BOYS! COME ON! RUN!
It didn't really help them at all.
And yes, Dan Carter is a hottie who kicks the ball like good old Jonny. Well done him.
The game finished with a try by the Crusaders which they didn't need at all because they had been constantly in the lead from the start but it was still a nifty way to finish, of course.
Well done Crusaders, you win.

The last few days we've just been wandering around Christchurch taking advantage of the free stuff. Yesterday we spent about 5 hours lying around in the botanic gardens. They were very pretty. We had to go to the Australia section so Rusty could hug a tree and feel like he was at home. He's a strange boy.
Today, we went to the Art Gallery which was really good! We saw many paintings from the 19th and 20th century which were all very impressive, of course. We also went to the Modern Art section. I'm sure we all know how I feel about modern art (ie a lot of it is complete...erm...bs. I realise that a lot of it has merit, it's very impressive and deep, but coloured circles on a black background do not represent a poem. They JUST DON'T.) I didn't get tooooo annoyed at the collection there though! There were some really interesting things in amongst the weird shizzle, such as a strange thing representing an estuary but also a heart beating.
We also visited the cathedral. It was nice, but nothing special in comparison to others I've seen. Maz and I climbed up the tower, but by that time Bry was feeling a bit over-churched so her and Rusty didn't come with us.
We climbed 134 steps (though I counted 147, I think they lied to us!) and looked out each side at the top. It was quite attractive, but not spectacular, because Cathedral Square is surrounded by quite a lot of high-rise buildings so you couldn't see a long distance really. Never mind eh.
Sorry about the lack of photos today, I don't have my wire with me. I'll do them next time.
Laters kiddos. Lots of love

Hi honeys

I didn't leave a message last time cos I thought you'd think I was having trouble "letting go" but actually my webcam that I secreted in Bryony's rucksack has been picking you up beautifully throughout the trip and my personal detective who has been shadowing you has been sending back regular reports so no problems there. I've had to switch it off now and redeploy said detective to other child-following duties (well, I have got 3 others!) as some of Bryony's antics were a bit much. If only Rusty could stick to hugging the tree......
Charlie is very impressed by rugby commentary Maz, understood every word and hopes Bryony bought him a shirt. Had his hair cut tonight but you can't really tell, still looks like an Old English Sheepdog.
Love you,
BazMum (trying v hard to find meaning in life without children-sob!!)

Rugby - wow!

I've just been to Kuwait so that's my excuse for not posting anything. Kuwait has NO BOOZE. Think on that Baz. Blokes sitting round in long white dresses sipping fruit juices.

I've a nice long week-end at home, then off to Johannesburg for a week's work.

How about cricket? Surely New Zealand must be excited about the WORLD CUP.

Do tell us more.

Oh, and tell us about the other stuff too, but keep it short, eh? Leaves more room for rugby and cricket news, which is clearly much more important.

Byeeeee
